An apparent domestic dispute escalated to gunfire, leaving a 45-year-old Cedar City man dead and his self-confessed shooter — an ex-con — behind bars.

Cedar City Police Sgt. Jimmy Roden said a 911 call reporting the shooting came in about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday from a home in the 100 East block of 525 North. Officers found the victim, identified as Shawn Leroy Multine, dead at the scene.

Witnesses told police that Angelo Seth Carrasco, 34, had gotten into an argument with the victim that culminated in Carrasco fatally shooting Multine with a rifle. Carrasco also assaulted a woman and threatened another man with the rifle before fleeing the home with an unidentified female, Roden said.

"Approximately 30 minutes later, telephone contact was made with an adult female who was with Carrasco. She advised officers that they were at the KB Express convenience store located at 734 S. Main in Cedar City," Roden said.

Cedar City police found Carrasco at the store, where he "admitted to investigators that he had committed the murder," Roden said, though the reason he fought with Multine remained under investigation Wednesday.

Carrasco was arrested without further incident and booked into the Iron County jail on suspicion of murder, aggravated assault and aggravated burglary.

Roden said the female found with Carrasco was detained, questioned and then released.

As for Carrasco, court records show a long, violent criminal history including multiple assault offenses as well as drug-related and forgery convictions.

Utah Department of Corrections spokeswoman Brooke Adams said Carrasco has been in and out of prison, last being released in March of this year. He has previously been incarcerated Aug. 18, 2011 and paroled April 30, 2013, only to have his parole revoked and ben returned to prison Oct. 29, 2013.
