Dining notes: Frida Bistro opens

Jorge Fierro, founder of the popular Rico brand of Mexican products, has opened Frida Bistro at 545 W. 700 South, Salt Lake City. Named for famed Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, it replaces the short-lived Café by Rico. The fine-dining restaurant currently is serving lunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dinner service is expected to start in January. Rick Bruno left his post at Meditrina to be the new chef; Stephanie Bailey-Hatfield, formerly of Wild Grape Bistro, will oversee the wine and spirits. For details, call 801-433-9923.

Teppanyaki at Hibachi House

Utah's third Hibachi House recently opened at 212 S. 700 East, Salt Lake City. The Japanese restaurant, which also has locations in Lehi and Clinton, specializes in Teppanyaki-style food at affordable prices. Lunch specials available. Evening of wine and sushi

Enjoy an evening of wine and sushi, Jan. 15 from 7 to 9 p.m., at Urban Studios in Trolley Square, 600 S. 700 East, Salt Lake City. Utah wine educator Jack Chase will lead a tasting of four wines while chef Jonas Otsuji prepares sushi to match. Cost is $40 per person.
