The Great Salt Lake Audubon is leading a group into Farmington Bay and the surrounding area on Wednesday at about 7 a.m. The group is meeting at the McDonald's at the Centerville exit on I-15 and will head out at 7:30 a.m. Bring your own water and snacks; a $3 to $5 donation for gas money is appreciated. The Great Salt Lake Audubon is also holding a warbler identification class, presented by Tim Avery on Aug. 19 at 7 p.m. at the Sugar House Garden Center, 1400 E. 2100 South, Salt Lake City. The cost is $5 to attend. Call Deedee at 801-272-8060 to reserve a spot.
Charity ride
Think Outside Children's Charity is holding its first annual Bear Pa Challenge Charity Cycling Tour on Aug. 14 to 16. Proceeds from the race will benefit Shriners Hospitals for Children. Day one begins at Bear Lake in Garden City and finishes in Evanston, Wyo.; day two is Evanston to Park City; day three goes through Park City and Snyderville Basin. Star party
The Salt Lake Astronomical Society is holding a star party on Saturday at the Stansbury Park Observatory. The program starts at dusk with a 30-minute program followed by star viewing, weather permitting. For more information and directions to the observatory, visit www.slas.us.
Grant awarded
The American West Heritage Center in Wellsville has received an $8,000 grant from the Wells Fargo Foundation to support its educational programs. The center is a non-profit organization devoted to the preservation of the history and heritage of the Cache Valley area. Educational programs that coordinate with the state's social studies curriculum are offered each spring and fall for local and regional school children.
Photography workshops
The Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge, 2155 W. Forest St., Brigham City, is holding digital photography workshops on July 19 and Aug. 2. The first workshop is at 1 p.m. and is designed for children. The adult workshop, Aug. 2, is at noon. Bring your own camera and manual, questions and photographs you've taken for a discussion. The workshops are free, but registration is required. Call 435-723-5887 for information and to register. There is also a photography show by landscape photographer Terry Halbert on display at the refuge through Aug. 2.
Disc golf tournament
Team Utah Disc Golf and Solitude Mountain Resort are presenting the 2008 Full Throttle Challenge disc golf tournament Aug. 29-31 at Solitude.
The tournament is a 2008 Rocky Mountain region USDGC Qualifier. The PDGA Pro A-Tier and Am B-Tier 24-hole course is limited to 125 players.
Divisions include: Open Men; Open Masters Men; Open Women; Advanced Am Men Men; Advanced Am Men Masters; Advanced Am Women; Intermediate Am Men; Intermediate Am Women; Juniors.
