Posted: 8:12 AM- CEDAR CITY - Some prairie dogs from southern Utah may feel a little disoriented for a while.

Wildlife officials are conducting prairie dog roundups this summer. They hope by relocating the federally protected animals, they can keep the critters away from people and homes. Wildlife officials are trapping the prairie dogs, then taking them to a designated spot 100 miles away.

Prairie dogs are considered a nuisance by some people, but there is little they can do as long as the species is on the protected list.

According to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, about 68 percent of Utah prairie dogs live on private or non-federal land in southwestern Utah.
