Comment proves to be bad 'karma' for Sharon Stone's films in China
Sharon Stone's ''karma'' comment is having an instant effect on her movie-star status in China. The 50-year-old actress suggested last week that the devastating May 12 earthquake in China could have been the result of bad karma over the government's treatment of Tibet. That prompted the founder of one of China's biggest cinema chains to say his company would not show her films in his theaters, according to a story in The Hollywood Reporter. Ng See-Yuen, founder of the UME Cineplex chain and the chairman of the Federation of Hong Kong Filmmakers, called Stone's comments ''inappropriate,'' adding that actors should not bring personal politics to comments about a natural disaster that has left five million Chinese homeless, according to the Reporter.

Judge approves Madonna's
adoption of Malawian boy
A judge on Wednesday approved Madonna's adoption of a Malawian boy she met in an orphanage in 2006. The 49-year-old pop star wasn't in court for the ruling. Justice Andrew Nyirenda said he was satisfied that Madonna and her British filmmaker husband, Guy Ritchie, ''are perfect parents'' for David, who will be 3 in November. David's mother died when he was a month old. His father, Yohane Banda, has said he believed he could not care for him alone, and that placing him in an orphanage was the best way to ensure David's survival. The father has said he didn't object to the adoption. He said Wednesday he was glad the adoption was successful.
