CEDAR CITY - State Road 148 will reopen May 24 - the same day the visitor center resumes operations at Cedar Breaks National Monument.
"Winter has loosened its grip on the high country east of Cedar City in time for our traditional Memorial Day weekend opening," monument Superintendent Paul Roelandt said.
The road, 17 miles east of Cedar City in Iron County leading to the park, closes every winter because of heavy snows.
Park officials say snow up to two feet deep remains in the area, closing some trails and the Point Supreme Campground, scheduled to open June 14.
In addition to the visitor center's opening, naturalist talks will be offered daily.
This year marks the 75th anniversary of the park, which is planning special events this tourist season to celebrate the occasion.
Park hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
