Posted: 9:00 AM- The U.S. Forest Service is thanking the public for paying recreation fees through an honor system.
People who visit certain federal lands are supposed to pull of roads to pay daily or weekly fees at manned or unmanned stations.
The federal recreational fees were first charged in 1997.
Every year, the Forest Service says, it collects $250,000 at Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area, $500,000 at American Fork Canyon and $250,000 at Mirror Lake Scenic Highway.
No less than 80 percent of the revenue is supposed to stay at the site where it's collected for public improvements.
