ALL ABOUT TREES: The value of a tree is hard to place, but this beautiful reference book, Trees: A visual guide, from Tony Rodd and Jennifer Stackhouse (University of California Press, $29.95) may provide a good starting point. Spread throughout the 304 pages and 540 color photos are chapters that include form and function, diversity and design, and trees and the human world.
