But the West Rim Trail, which passes through one of the remaining active fires, is still closed, as are all canyons that are accessed by the trail, including Heaps, Behunin and Imlay.
Zion officials warn visitors there is an increased risk of flash flooding due to the loss of vegetation in the burned area and thunderstorms are expected this week.
Permits are required for hiking the Narrows from Chamberlain's Ranch and for most other canyon routes in the park. Backcountry users should check at park visitor centers for weather forecasts before starting their hikes.
Star party

Birding trips

Manti ATV Tours
The annual Manti Scenic Mountain ATV Tours are Aug. 10 and 11. Rides, exhibits and performances will be held in Manti. The cost of each guided ride is $25 per person or $20 per person for families with four or more riders. A portion of the fees will be used to help maintain trail riding in the area. The Utah Wildlife Board is meeting Wednesday to approve the cougar and trapping proclamations. The meeting starts at 9 a.m. at the Department of Natural Resources auditorium, 1594 W. North Temple, Salt Lake City.
Free REI clinics
Rick Deutsch, author of One Best Hike: Yosemite's Half Dome, will present a slide show and talk about the 16-mile round-trip hike from the summit of Half Dome and back Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Salt Lake REI store, 3285 E. 3300 South, East Millcreek.
Deutsch will be joined by Jayah Faye Paley on Aug. 9 for a clinic at 7 p.m. at the Sandy store, 10600 S. 230 West. Paley will talk about the advantages of using hiking poles. Deutsch will give his presentation at 8 p.m.
