Talk turkey at Women in the Outdoors events in Lehi

National Wild Turkey Federation's Women in the Outdoors program is holding a symposium and awards dinner Saturday at the Cabela's store in Lehi, 2502 W. Grand Terrace Parkway. A turkey-calling seminar with Utah champions Lynn Worwood and Jason Jarvis starts at 1 p.m. A turkey hunting and safety seminar starts at 2:30 p.m., and a clinic on turkey biology and habitat, taught by federation biologist Stan Baker, starts at 4 p.m.

A women-only "Outdoorsy" scrapbook clinic will be held at the store from noon to 5 p.m. Jamie Mitchell will show participants how to make a scrapbook from start to finish using pictures from hunting, fishing, hiking, etc. Preregistration is required for the scrapbooking event.

A Women in the Outdoors leadership workshop will be held at 5 p.m.

The group's Women in the Outdoors benefit and awards dinner starts at 6 p.m. The cost for dinner is $35 for two people.

Utah geology calendar

The Utah Geological Survey (UGS) has produced its first calendar showcasing the state's geologic scenery.

UGS employees submitted 240 photos for the 2007 calendar; images that show evidence of glaciers, erosion, earthquakes, ancient life and volcanoes were selected. Samples of the photos can be seen at http://www.geology.utah .gov.

The calendars are $3.95 and are available at the Utah Department of Natural Resources Map and Bookstore, 1594 W. North Temple, Salt Lake City. Orders also can be placed by calling 801-537-3320, 888-UTAH-MAP or by e-mailing geostore@utah.gov.

HawkWatch anniversary

HawkWatch International, a local organization that monitors and protects raptors and their environments through research, education and conservation, is celebrating its 20th anniversary Nov. 16 at the Jewish Community Center, 2 N. Medical Drive, Salt Lake City.

The event runs from 7 to 10 p.m. and includes food, wine, local brews, live music, live birds and prizes. Tickets are $20 and all proceeds benefit HawkWatch. Call 801-581-0098 or visit http://www.hawk watch.org for information.

Utah Winter Games

The Utah Winter Games recently announced its winter clinic and competition schedule for the 2006-07 season. Events include skiing, snowboarding, luge, skeleton, skating, snowshoeing, cross country skiing and biathlon.

Biathlon clinic, race

The Utah Biathlon Club and the US Archery Biathlon Association are holding a summer biathlon clinic and race Saturday at Camp Williams. Registration starts at 8:15 a.m., with clinics at 8:45 and 9:45 a.m. The race starts at 11 a.m.

Photographer speaks

Award-winning author and photographer Tim Palmer is presenting a free slide show on his new book, Rivers of America, Nov. 11 at 7 a.m. at Ken Sanders Rare Books, 268 S. 200 East, Salt Lake City.

The book includes 200 color photos of rivers from coast to coast and Alaska. Copies of the book will be available for $40 at the slide show.
