The quilt will be on display Thursday through May 10 at the exposition center, 9575 S. State St., Sandy.
Created by Donald E. Locke, a Waxahachie, Texas, dentist, "The Supper" is made up of 350 fabrics, cut into 51,816 half-inch squares, according to a news release.
Machine quilter and HMQS instructor Linda V. Taylor, of Etna, Wyo., accepted the challenge to machine quilt the top.
"The Supper," which is 15.3 feet wide and 5.5 feet tall, had to be loaded and quilted sideways because the quilt was longer than the quilting-machine table.
The HMQS is the premier consumer exhibition and hands-on educational show for machine quilters and embroiderers. It features more than 100 classes on a variety of quilting topics, a judged quilt competition, a Vendor's Mall of 150 exhibitor booths, free demonstrations, grand prizes and a display of more than 500 quilts. New this year, the 2008 show will offer classes and demonstrations on machine embroidery, as well as machine quilting. Evening classes are available.
