Faith in action: Relief Society meeting

The LDS Church's general Relief Society meeting will be held Saturday in the Conference Center in downtown Salt Lake City at 6 p.m. Speakers will include a member of the LDS First Presidency, as well as the members of the Relief Society general presidency.

Celebrating the Sisterhood

Seagull Book stores throughout Utah will stage readings and book signings by prominent LDS authors -- including Jodi Robinson, Clair Poulson, Malcolm Leal and Julie Wright -- today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, call 801-756-1041 extension 151.

LDS conference

The 179th semiannual General Conference of the LDS Church will be Oct. 3 and 4 in the Conference Center in downtown Salt Lake City. Saturday's sessions are at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. with a priesthood meeting for male members at 6 p.m. Sunday's sessions are at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Cultural celebration

The Salt Lake American Muslim will stage "A Celebration of Cultural Diversity" today at the Salt Lake Art Center, 20 S. West Temple. The festival promotes mutual understanding among cultures and honors diversity. Activities will include ethnic food, merchandise vendors and free children's games. Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon will inaugurate the festival at 2:30 p.m. with live cultural performances beginning at 3 p.m. This year's highlights are Kenshin Taiko Japanese drummers, Sol de Jalisco Mariachi band, Kausachun Peru dancers, Easter Arts Dancers, Samba Gringa and Rinceoiri don Spraoi Irish Dancers starting at 3 p.m. For more information, call 801-671-6709.

Art auction

The Unitarian Universalist Church, 705 23rd St., Ogden, is holding an art and services auction Oct. 3 from 6 to 9 p.m. There will be locally crafted art and jewelry, as well as food and music.

Lotus Festival

Urgyen Samten Ling Gonpa--Tibetan Buddhist Temple, 740 S. 300 West, Salt Lake City, will hold its Lotus Festival on Oct. 2 from 5 to 9 p.m. There will be a rare Buddhist relics exhibit, martial-arts demonstrations, Asian food and tea, children's crafts, Asian and Buddhist art boutique and a silent auction. LDS discussion

An open discussion of LDS general conference topics and trends will be held Oct. 5 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Salt Lake City Main Library, Conference Room A, 210 E. 400 South.
