"Dreamcatcher"

HHH

World Cinema Documentary

The documentary "Dreamcatcher" is a street-eye-view look at Chicago's sex trade — and the tireless efforts of one woman to get prostitutes to leave the life. Brenda Myers-Powell knows that world too well, having worked 25 years as a prostitute. Now she works as a jail counselor, talking to women inmates about the poverty and abuse that led them to the streets. She also meets with at-risk teens, and patrols the streets trying to help prostitutes find another way to live. Director Kim Longinotto takes a low-key approach, training her camera on Myers-Powell through her busy schedule, creating a quietly moving portrait of a woman determined to give these young women a measure of hope and comfort.
