"We want to make the material even more layered and more dense and more informative, and hopefully, more refined," she said of the dance she set to original music by Danish composer Jens H¿rsving. That will translate to the section about bones emphasizing fragility with movement set against a sawing sound, while the section about the heart will suggest the rhythm of a heartbeat, but also moods of romance and tenderness.
The concert will also present Doug Varone's "Smashed Landscapes," a dance created for R-W in 1994 and reprised in 2003, set to music from the punk band Fugazi's "Repeater."
"Because of the work's extreme physicality, you cannot not be engaged," Boye-Christensen says. "It forces you forward in your seat."
Also on the program for the 90-minute concert is Della Davidson's "Night Story." Based on "The Wicked Girl" from Isabel Allende's The Stories of Eva Luna, the dance incorporates Spanish and English texts to consider the boundaries between fantasy and reality in a unrequited love story.
