Lexus is the driving force behind Legend's green-themed concert

Timberland will premiere eco-conscious footwear at the Sundance Film Festival. There will be more than 135 new recycling bins placed throughout Park City. But of all the efforts to make this year's festival the greenest ever, only one has a Legend associated with it.

John Legend will perform at the Star Bar Saturday night as part of a partnership with Lexus and its Project Greenhouse on Main Street.

"I've worked with Lexus in the past and we have a relationship," Legend told The Salt Lake Tribune this week. He agreed to do the show because Lexus will donate some of the proceeds to charities he supports, including his Show Me Campaign to address poverty in Africa.

His Saturday show will be a scaled-back, intimate performance with a small band, Legend said. Before and after the show, festivalgoers might see Legend walking around Main Street, as opposed to his last visit several years ago when he and friend Kanye West came "in and out" for a brief show.

"This will be my longest time there," Legend said. Instead of skiing - he said he's a poor skier because of a childhood spent in flat Ohio - he wants to see as many movies as he can.

The two events - the concert and Project Greenhouse - are meant to show the "synergy between luxury and green-living," Lexus officials said. "The Sundance Film Festival is a place where the natural setting of Park City meets the glamour of Hollywood," said Kimberley Gardiner, Lexus event-marketing manager.

Project Greenhouse is like a carbon-neutral model home that uses only organic furnishings. It also features the Eco-Fashion Closet, showcasing the latest sustainable designs from such notables as Oscar de la Renta.

And, unlike many events throughout the week, the average person has a chance - albeit small - to get tickets to Legend's exclusive performance.

Today and Saturday, a limited number of tickets to Legend's performance will be available at Project Greenhouse, 306 Main St. People who want to see the concert are advised to visit early; it opens today at 1 p.m.
