"High School Musical," the tween sensation that began as a Disney Channel movie filmed in Utah, is becoming a merchandising monster thanks to savvy Disney marketers. What's expected to grow from the ratings blockbuster later this year:

The DVD: Walt Disney Home Entertainment will release the "Encore Edition" of the movie on May 23. It will include two versions, the original and the sing-along, as well as more bonus material.

Online: Apple already has made the movie available for download on its iTunes Music Store for $9.99 (for the video iPod). Six music videos and all of the movie's songs also have rocked the digital charts.

The novel: Due to be published in May.

Ringtones: Versions of the songs for cell-phone ringtones will be available this month.

Second soundtrack CD: A "special edition" of the best-selling soundtrack will be released May 23. The two-disc set will include original songs from the first CD plus karaoke versions and a free ringtone. A karaoke-only CD will be available in the fall.

Merchandising: The "High School Musical" backpack? An official "High School Musical" pencil box? Disney plans to license products under the movie's name.
