Chicago
Show of the week » Are you surprised that this show is sold out, so the only option left is to search for a scalper? Don't be. Chicago, the pop-rock-jazz fusion band formed in 1967 in its namesake city, has sold more than 120 million albums and charted five No. 1 albums. Bill Champlin, singer, songwriter, guitarist, keyboard player, arranger and producer with Chicago since 1981, said his band is a summer tour warrior. "I've had one summer off since 1982," he said. "It's a pretty good gig," he added. "It helps to have relatively good songs." Coincidentally, the same day as the concert, Champlin will release "No Place Left to Fall," his first solo CD in more than a decade. It took so long, he said, because he wanted an album that's "all killer, no filler." He said he was of the era when every time the Beatles released an album, it was an event, and people would listen to the record the whole way through. "I remember buying LPs and reading liner notes," he said. "People [now] don't say, 'I can't wait to buy that Lady GaGa album to see who played percussion.' "
