The Gateway on Thursday announced a free Summer Concert Series featuring local bands which will take place almost every Friday and Saturday over the next month, beginning this Friday night.

The concerts will take place at downtown Salt Lake City shopping district's new performance stage near the Olympic Fountain. Scheduled performing bands cover a range of genres, including alternative, soul, blues, rockabilly, and hit covers. Each concert will begin at 7:30 p.m.

"We're creating a lot of new events at The Gateway, and our Summer Concerts are a really fun, unique addition," Edie Trott, marketing director at The Gateway, said in a news release. "We love being able to offer a place for local talent to take the stage, and people really get into experiencing some new sounds, right in their own backyard."

The bands slated to perform are Lounge 40, Rumor Has It, Mama J, Cardinal Bloom, Sister Brother, JK and Krew Duo, Dizzy Desoto, and Brother Chunky.

The concert series is the latest step in the $100 million redevelopment of The Gateway being undertaken by new owner Vestar.

The Gateway includes Wiseguys Comedy Club, Larry H. Miller Megaplex Theatre, The Depot, Discovery Gateway Children's Museum, Clark Planetarium, and The Salt Lake Tribune.
