On July 24, many Utahns will observe Pioneer Day at a parade or pancake breakfast that honors the Mormons who rode or walked into the Salt Lake Valley.

A small, growing contingent, however, will revel in the fourth annual Pie and Beer Day celebration, a fundraiser for the Utah Brewer's Guild.

This twist on words and food pairings is a recent trend that pokes fun at the predominant culture, but is not meant to offend.
