Big Freedia, the self-proclaimed "Queen of Bounce," is the headlining musical act for this year's Utah Pride Festival.

Pride Week events are set to begin on Wednesday with the Pride Spectacular at Marriott City Creek. The 42nd Utah Pride Festival will run Friday through Sunday, June 4, at Washington Square and Library Plaza.

The three days of music acts get under way Friday at 6:35 p.m. with Totem City, and wrap up Sunday evening, with Big Freedia taking the stage from 6:15 to 7.

There will be three stages of music over the weekend, the Main Stage, a Red Rock Stage devoted to women's acts, and the Dance Stange, which will be exclusively populated by DJ sets. There will also be a Spoken Word Stage.

Some of the names that locals will undoubtedly recognize include drum-and-dancers act Samba Fogo, Gypsy trip-hop violinist Katya Murafa, multigenre rocker Talia Keys, parody trio the Saliva Sisters, and '80s New Wave tribute act The Spazmatics.

As for the headliner, Big Freedia (pronounced free-duh) has been at the forefront of the so-called "Bounce" movement, which is a hip-hop sub-genre originating in New Orleans and known for a call-and-response style and, according to Big Freedia's Facebook page, "lightning-speed booty-shaking dance."

Big Freedia has performed at myriad festivals, the most noteworthy of which include SXSW and Bonnaroo. The performer also has been at the likes of Electric Forest, Hangout Fest, FunFunFun Fest and the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.

Big Freedia is also working on a new EP, as well as a TV series tentatively slated to air on Fuse TV this coming October. Both share the title "Queen of Bounce."
