Stage » A regional musical premiere and Disney musicals mark first full season at Hale’s two-theater arts complex.

A regional premiere of the Broadway musical "Tuck Everlasting" will take the spotlight in 2018 as Hale Centre Theatre presents its first full season in its new theater complex in Sandy.

The lineup of eight productions and two special events was "hand-picked for Utah families," said Sally Dietlein, the company's co-founder and vice president, in a statement.

The company will inaugurate its new 130,000-square-foot Mountain America Performing Arts Centre in September with "Forever Plaid" playing in the 460-seat Jewel Box theater. The 900-seat Centre Stage, featuring a technologically advanced round platform stage, will open Nov. 16 with a production of Elton John and Tim Rice's "Aida."

Hale's 2018 season lineup includes two stage adaptations of Disney films with music by Alan Menken, "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" (Feb. 5-March 31) and "Newsies" (June 25-Sept. 1). "Newsies" might become Utah's most popular show next year, as the Disney musical will also receive professional productions at Tuacahn Amphitheatre beginning in June and Pioneer Theatre Company in December.

Classic plays include Michael Cooney's 1996 farce "Cash on Delivery!" (Jan. 19-March 17) and Frederick Knott's 1966 Broadway thriller "Wait Until Dark" (Oct. 6-Nov. 17).

Other classics include Meredith Willson's "The Music Man" (April 16-June 9 run), "The Scarlet Pimpernel" with music by Frank Wildhorn (Sept. 17-Nov. 20), and "The Wizard of Oz" (Dec. 10-Jan. 26).

In addition to the eight-show season, special events include a July 18-Sept. 22 run of "My Son Pinocchio, Geppetto's Musical Tale" (with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, adapted from Disney's 2000 TV film "Geppetto"), and the theater company's annual production of "A Christmas Carol," which will run Dec. 1-24.

Season ticket renewals will begin June 1 for the company's 24,000 ticketholders; new subscribers can buy tickets Aug. 1. Ticket prices will range from $30 to $40 per show.
