The Chamber Music Society of Salt Lake City will present the Lark Quartet, performing Debussy's Quartet in G minor, Op. 10; Zhou Lang's Five Folk Songs; Gershwin's Five Songs for String Quartet and Dvorak's Quartet in G Major, Op. 106.

The quartet, founded in 1985, puts a priority on commissioning new works and collaborating with other artists. These projects include "Billy in the Darbies" by William Bolcom featuring baritone Stephen Salters, "Scenes from the Poet's Dreams" by Jennifer Higdon featuring pianist Gary Graffman, two quartets (the second of which won the 1997 Pulitzer Prize) by Aaron Jay Kernis, "Big Time" by Nico Muhly featuring percussionist Yousif Sheronick, and two works by Peter Schickele. Quartet members are violinists Deborah Buck and Basia Danilow, violist Kathryn Lockwood and cellist Caroline Stinson.

Thursday's concert will be preceded at 6:45 p.m. by a lecture given by Lisa Chaufty, a prominent flutist who directs the University of Utah's Early Music Ensemble as well as the university's Emma Ray Riggs McKay Music Library.
