After a civic ribbon-cutting on Tuesday, the art-filled Eccles Theater opens its doors to the public with a weekend of special events.

Friday, Oct. 21 • A Broadway-style gala will be held at 7:30 p.m., with the show led by musical director Kurt Bestor, featuring Broadway star Rita Moreno and actors Brian Stokes Mitchell and Megan Hilty. Also featured are Utah performers from Ballet West, Repertory Dance, Ririe-Woodbury, Utah Opera Chorus and University of Utah theater department. Tickets $150-$200 at 801-355-2787. Ticketholders invited to an after party on Regent Street.

Saturday, Oct. 22 • Free performances throughout the Eccles Theater complex are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Sunday, Oct. 23 • Live broadcast at 9:30 a.m. of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir's "Music and the Spoken Word," the first time the show will be recorded a venue other than the Salt Lake Tabernacle or LDS Conference Center. Tickets are free, but sold out; the choir will livestream the broadcast at the Tabernacle for overflow crowds. The public is invited to a facility open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The lobby's Encore Bistro and concessions will provide food for purchase.
