Kevin Smith's whacked-out comedy "Yoga Hosers" is a rare case of a spinoff that exceeds the wit and charm of its predecessor.

Smith spins off two characters from his body-horror schlocker "Tusk": the bored Canadian convenience store clerks, played by his daughter, Harley Quinn Smith, and her real-life bestie Lily-Rose Depp. Now, the girls are front-and-center as Colleen McKenzie and Colleen Collette, yoga-loving teens still working at the Eh-2-Zed store, glued to their smartphones and dismissing what they don't like as being "so basic."

The girls discover their store is overrun with Bratzis, foot-high Canadian Nazis genetically spawned from bratwursts by an evil Nazi scientist (Ralph Garman), and the Colleens must knock the sauerkraut out of them to save Winnipeg.

Smith (who portrays the Bratzis) breaks up the action with a bunch of kooky cameos — including Haley Joel Osment, Justin Long, Tony Hale, Natasha Lyonne, comic-book legend Stan Lee and Lily-Rose's mom, Vanessa Paradis — but the strangest is Lily-Rose's dad, Johnny Depp, reprising his "Tusk" role as the Canadian Columbo, Guy LaPointe. The whole thing's a mess, but at least it's sometimes funny and engaging, which is more than "Tusk" ever was.
