Hale Centre Theatre and Sandy City officials staged a new opening on Thursday: a fundraising campaign to complete the nonprofit company's 130,000-square-foot, two-theater complex. Officials showed off new roomier seats, custom carpet and a model of the complex to launch their "Play Your Part" capital campaign, offering naming rights for the complex, the Jewel Box and round Centre Stage theaters, as well as the founder's room, green room and dressing rooms. Sandy offered $42 million in bonds and the theater company is raising the remaining $28 million of the $70 million project. The company will open its smaller theater in September 2017 with a production of "Forever Plaid," followed by the November opening of "Aida" on the new arena stage. When completed, the theater company dedicated to family friendly shows will present 700 performances annually. —
