This year's Stadium of Fire is getting a jump on the Fourth of July weekend this year.
The 36th edition of the annual extravaganza is set for Saturday at 8 p.m. at LaVell Edwards Stadium on the Brigham Young University campus in Provo.
Emory Cook, a spokesman for America's Freedom Festival, the nonprofit that organizes the show, said there were a number of reasons behind scheduling the show before the Monday holiday including stadium issues and the number of out-of-town visitors who otherwise would have to miss a day of work.
One factor is the busy schedule of the show's headliner, country superstar Tim McGraw. The singer, known for such hits as "Live Like You Were Dying," is set to perform at a festival in Milwaukee on Sunday and in Wildwood, N.J., on the Fourth.
Here's what else is on the bill at Stadium of Fire this year:
• R&B/jazz singer Patti Austin, who will be the show's host and will perform her new patriotic single, "We the People."
• Aerial stunts from the Rockwell Airtime Skydive Team.
• Music from the Unity Gospel Choir and singer David Osmond (son of Stadium of Fire founder Alan Osmond).
• The Stadium of Fire Dancers.
• And the grand finale: The nation's biggest stadium fireworks show.
Tickets for Stadium of Fire range from $29 to $175, and are available at freedomfestival.org.
Here's a look at many other events and fireworks shows along the Wasatch Front and beyond from small-town parades and fun runs to baseball and rodeos over the July Fourth holiday weekend.
