This year's Stadium of Fire is getting a jump on the Fourth of July weekend this year.

The 36th edition of the annual extravaganza is set for Saturday at 8 p.m. at LaVell Edwards Stadium on the Brigham Young University campus in Provo.

Emory Cook, a spokesman for America's Freedom Festival, the nonprofit that organizes the show, said there were a number of reasons behind scheduling the show before the Monday holiday — including stadium issues and the number of out-of-town visitors who otherwise would have to miss a day of work.

One factor is the busy schedule of the show's headliner, country superstar Tim McGraw. The singer, known for such hits as "Live Like You Were Dying," is set to perform at a festival in Milwaukee on Sunday and in Wildwood, N.J., on the Fourth.

Here's what else is on the bill at Stadium of Fire this year:

• R&B/jazz singer Patti Austin, who will be the show's host and will perform her new patriotic single, "We the People."

• Aerial stunts from the Rockwell Airtime Skydive Team.

• Music from the Unity Gospel Choir and singer David Osmond (son of Stadium of Fire founder Alan Osmond).

• The Stadium of Fire Dancers.

• And the grand finale: The nation's biggest stadium fireworks show.

Utah Symphony

Oakley will hold its annual July Fourth celebration and rodeo. There will be no events Sunday. Events include a breakfast and softball tourney on Saturday, with the parade, 5K race, patriotic program and fireworks on Monday. The Oakley rodeo will run through Monday with fireworks afterward.

Riverton Town Days

The two-day Riverton Town Days begins with a parade starting on 13400 South and ending at Riverton City Park, where a variety of food and activities will be waiting. Day 2 starts with a flag-raising ceremony, followed by running and bike races, a chuckwagon breakfast, swimming contests, all-day events at the park and fireworks at 10 p.m.

Freedom Days — Provo

Freedom Days is a three-day event in downtown Provo, with a carnival, entertainment, food, art exhibits and more (see details below).

Freedom Run • About 6,000 runners are expected to participate Monday at 7 a.m.. The 1-mile, 5K- and 10K-races all begin and end at Kiwanis Park under a giant finish arch.

Balloon Fest • Watch 25 hot air balloons float into the morning sky on Friday, Saturday and Monday at Bulldog Field in Provo from 6-8 a.m., weather permitting. Visitors can walk among the balloons before they take off; breakfast provided by the Provo Kiwanis Club, with proceeds going to charity.

Independence Day Celebration — West Bountiful

West Bountiful will hold an Independence Day Celebration. On Friday, events start at 6 p.m. with a safety fair followed by concerts, activities and food vendors. Holly Frontier will present the fireworks display at 10 p.m. Saturday starts off with a parade at 10 a.m. followed by activities and food, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday will feature a flag raising at City Hall at 7 a.m. Visit for information.

Experience what life was like in Revolutionary War times and be inspired by "Cries of Freedom, The Musical." Clog America will perform at 8 p.m. Monday. Also throughout the event, the largest collection of military vehicles and artifacts in Utah County history will be on display as part of the Freedom Vehicles Military Outpost.

Bingham High School Memorial
