Salt Lake County librarians are featured in a new web series to promote storytelling.

StorySpace — posted at slcolibrary.org/storyspace — is designed for families who can't come in person to the scheduled story times at the county's 18 library branches, says Heather Novotny, senior librarian for children's programming and outreach.

StorySpace, which is posted on the library's website and YouTube channel, can be a model to help readers invite young listeners to interact with the story. "We felt it would be a good fit," says Novotny, adding the series is aimed at being both fun and educational.

Librarians from throughout the county system auditioned to be featured on the kickoff episode of the series, which include puppets and songs along with reading Evie and Ryan Cordell's "Two Girls Want A Puppy."

The series took a year to plan and produce the first episode, "and some of that was our learning curve," Novotny says. "We had never done anything like this before." —
