Trestle Tavern to open in Fresco location

Diners in Salt Lake City's 15th and 15th neighborhood have been mourning the recent closure of Fresco. But soon they will have reason to celebrate, as Trestle Tavern, a casual dining concept from the Pago Restaurant Group, will take over the beloved neighborhood space, said co-owner Scott Evans. The group completed the sale of the building, at 1513 S. 1500 East, last week and the space will undergo a light facelift before opening in about 90 days. With 42 seats inside and 50 out, the intimate restaurant will continue to have "one of the best patios in the state," Evans promised. While menu details are still being worked out, Trestle Tavern will serve casual fare with a nod toward Eastern European pub food, including pierogies, chicken paprikash, fried chicken and hamburger with locally-raised beef. The drink list will include cider, beer and wine. The Pago Restaurant Group includes Salt Lake City's Pago, Finca, Hub and Spoke and East Liberty Tap House and is owned and operated by Evans, his wife Shannon, sister Wendy Evans and Briant Stringham. Jameel Gaskins, the Pago Restaurant Group's director of operation, will become an operating partner in Trestle Tavern.

Two gold medals for Sugar House Distillery bourbon

Sugar House Distillery's Bourbon Whiskey recently won two gold medals at the 2016 American Distilling Institute (ADI) annual conference in San Diego. Judges awarded the Utah-made spirit "Best Bourbon" and "Best of Category." The designation is given to independently-owned companies that distill and bottle on-site and which sell fewer than 100,000 proof gallons annually. More than 350 bourbons were entered in this year's competition, and a committee of 23 experts independently judged all spirits. Sugar House Distillery also produces vodka, silver and gold rum and malt whiskey.
