Tupelo opens in Park City

More than just a rare honey or a Van Morrison song, Tupelo is a new Park City restaurant featuring food inspired by the Southern roots of chef and co-owner, Matt Harris. Harris, who previously worked at Park City's J&G Grill, has created a menu that includes locally produced foods and artisan ingredients such as 48-hour braised veal cheeks, Bear Lake lamb chops, Idaho trout, heirloom Sea Island beans and house-made ricotta. The restaurant is in a historic building on Main Street, the spot formerly occupied by Silver. Harris, and his partners, which includes wife Maggie Alvarez, purchased the club license from the previous owner, which means guests can enjoy a craft cocktail or a bottle from the wine cellar that also contains the building's original cast iron boiler. The Tupelo name is a nod to the trees that are native to the southeastern part of the country, specifically near the Apalachicola River in the Florida Panhandle. The trees bloom for a brief time each year and the delicate honey produced from the sunburst-shaped blossoms is considered liquid gold.
