Last night, the Houston Astros advanced at the expense of the New York Yankees. (Yay!)

Tonight, the Pittsburgh Pirates host the Chicago Cubs in the National League wildcard game, (6 p.m, TBS) with the winner advancing to face the St. Louis Cardinals.

The Cubs, of course, haven't won a National League pennant since 1945 and haven't won a World Series since 1908. Compared to that, the Pirates have recent titles — they won both the NL and the World Series in 1979.

"The Middle" (7 p.m., ABC/Ch. 4): Sue accidentally tells Devin that Axl loves her.

"Nova" (8 p.m., PBS/Ch. 7): The discovery of a 3,700-year-old clay tablet that calls for a virtuous man to build an ark is detailed.

"Empire" (8 p.m., Fox/Ch. 13): Lucious tries to convince Frank Gather's daughter to sign with him; and Hakeem focuses his energy on making Ménage a Trois a success.

"Supernatural" (8 p.m., CW/Ch. 30): Sam and Dean face the Darkness that has been unleashed. (Season 11 premiere)
