Grandchildren and parents, children and bipeds, listen up. (That should be all of you.)

Flocking to Tracy Aviary during the summertime is already a warm-weather "must." But there's another reason to go to the oasis nestled in the heart of Salt Lake City's Liberty Park.

Put simply — if you thought the best outdoors activities this summer were over, think again.

This year's Breakfast with the Birds, which will be held 8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Aug. 29 at Tracy Aviary 589 E. 1300 South, is the sunny sendoff to summer you've been waiting for and a chance to experience the sights and sounds in a special look at one of the city's edutainment landmarks.

Here are 7 reasons to make sure you have a seat for the summer finale everyone's talking about:

1. Breakfast done better

A made-to-order pancake bar is only the start. For adults, a smorgasbord of breakfast — not to mention a mimosa bar — will be there to feed our massive morning appetites.

Also: bacon. We're there.

"It's a Saturday morning adventure at Tracy Aviary. It's very interactive and it's not a typical, sit-down, stay-put fundraiser. It's all about exploring what Tracy Aviary has to offer," said Becca Dupaix, development coordinator for Tracy Aviary.

2. Breakfast with a better view

Tracy Aviary's constantly growing exhibits and the flowers in full, summer bloom are reasons enough to make it to Breakfast with the Birds, but there are more.

Every Breakfast with the Birds participant will get a special bird show performance and front-row seat to the stunning, outdoor views — including behind-the-scenes access.

Black Bess and the Butchers will be performing at Tracy Aviary, which just makes breakfast better. It's way better than TV news in the morning — trust us.

"My kids were excited by all the different choices, so they picked a little from each station," said Alicia Gates, who attended Breakfast with the Birds last year. "The food was incredible! This was not just for kids as some of the stations had grown-up treats like mimosas — making me feel spoiled as well."

3. Support for future students

Every ticket purchase and donation made at Breakfast with the Birds supports Tracy Aviary's future education programs.

These programs are expanding and thriving, and filling an important need in Salt Lake City's conservation community. Ticket-buyers can feel good knowing that their contribution goes toward teaching the next generation about the importance of protecting every ecosystem.

4. Family fun

Ahead of National Grandparents Day, which is Sept. 13, children get the chance for a special arts and crafts class to make presents for their favorite "grammos" and "pop-pops" — or whatever their names may be.

"There was face painting — where my kids were transformed into birds — and a bounce house that they could pretend to fly and become birds too," Gates added. "Tracy Aviary had bird shows that my kids were able to participate in, and where, once again, they felt incredibly special."

Families get in for less too. Two adults and up to four children can buy a family pass for $125, which is more than 15 percent off of face value. Children 2 and under always get in free at Tracy Aviary, even during special events like Breakfast with the Birds.

(Children also have the opportunity to make crafts for their grandparents — hint, hint, Grandparents Day is Sept. 13 — at the breakfast.)

5. Fun without your family too

Denizens of Salt Lake City's downtown neighborhoods know that Tracy Aviary is perfectly placed for an afternoon adventure.

But the Tracy Aviary's breakfast — did we mention mimosas? — is how to spend a relaxing morning in style and prepare for another afternoon adventure.

"The grounds are lush and green and it's in the morning so it's not super hot. It's the perfect time to visit Tracy Aviary," Dupaix said. "It really is fun for people of all ages."

6. Incredible value

At $50 for adults, $10 for children under 12, Breakfast with the Birds is a summer morning out of the house with plenty of perks. Live music, open exhibits, plenty of food and mimosas make for a better deal than anywhere else in town.

For just $125, two adults and up to four children can experience the special exhibits, bird displays and breakfast, which is a savings of more than 15 percent off the face value.

7. Convenient location

Located in the heart of Salt Lake City at Liberty Park, Tracy Aviary is a short walk or drive from anywhere in the city. Parking is abundant and you don't have to leave the adventure when Breakfast with the Birds ends. Hang out a while longer and explore more, see the birds, or just relax as one of the last summer afternoons sails away.

"It really is a special experience in your own backyard," said Dupaix.

"This was an amazing event that I would certainly come back to again year after year," Gates added.

Breakfast with the Birds will be held 8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Saturday, August 29. Tracy Aviary is America's oldest and largest bird park with more than 400 birds from 135 different species. It is located at 589 E. 1300 South. For more information go to tracyaviary.org or call 801-596-8500.
