Arguments for and against Utah's school voucher referendum are due to the Lieutenant Governor's Office today, according to an order the Utah Supreme Court issued Wednesday. The 500-word blurbs will appear in voter information pamphlets for November's referendum vote.
Legislators will write the arguments. If they miss the deadline, any voter can ask to submit a blurb by June 29. Copies will be sent to the opposing side, which will have until July 13 to submit a 250-word rebuttal.
The court suspended a June 1 deadline for the blurbs when it agreed to hear two challenges to the ballot language last week.
The court ruled unanimously that two pieces of voucher legislation were inextricably linked and would both live or die on the Nov. 6 public vote. It made no change to the ballot language.
The law would provide $500 to $3,000 in private school tuition assistance.
