Charter schools would likely no longer have to include any certain number of parents on their boards, lawmakers voted Tuesday.

The Senate on Tuesday approved HB197, which had already passed the House. The bill would end a number of rules statewide, including one that requires charter schools to have at least one parent elected by other parents on their boards.

The Administrative Rules Review Committee recommended ending that rule in January after some said it might limit charter schools' ability to innovate and it should be up to charter schools, not the state, how to get parents involved. The Senate passed the bill 19-7 on Tuesday. Earlier in the session, the House passed the bill 70-1.
