Salt Lake City firefighters conduct drills at soon-to-be demolished home
The Salt Lake City Fire Department is conducting training drills this week on a home at 2162 East Country Club Drive (2350 South).
There were no flames, but a smoke machine helped simulate some of the conditions firefighters face during a real house fire.
Some of the skills firefighters will work on during the five-day training include forcible entry, hose advancement and search and rescue.
The owner of the house agreed to let firefighters use the structure before it is demolished to make way for a new home on the property. Members of SLCFD's Training Division have been working with the owner for more than a year to coordinate the schedule of events.
Firefighters planned to secure the premises after the daily drills are completed.
The Training Division visited neighbors on Monday, going door-to-door with a flyer indicating when the training will take place. The department also invited neighbors to observe the training.
The training began Wednesday and will continue through Sunday, with drills scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1-4 p.m.
