This weekend on TV: A world without babies in 'The Lottery'

And now for something completely different for the Lifetime channel — it's The Lottery (8 p.m., Lifetime).

In the not-too-distant future, the world is experiencing a fertility crisis. After years of plummeting birth rates, not a single baby has been born anywhere on Earth for five years.

As this series begins, scientists have managed to fertilize 100 eggs, and there's a lottery to determine which 100 women will carry the embryos.

“The Lottery” is more than a little bit over the top. But it might just be crazy enough to work for Lifetime.
