Unified Police seek help in hunting down would-be child kidnapper
Unified Police are seeking the public's help bringing to justice a man suspected of trying to kidnap a 12-year-old girl in Kearns as she walked with her aunt on a Kearns street.
UPD Lt. Justin Hoyal said the suspect described as a 5-foot-11 Latino man, 235 pounds, with a mustache and short black hair, wearing blue jeans, a maroon jersey and white shoes was parked in a black, four-door SUV with shiny wheel rims when the girl and her 18-year-old aunt walked by near Charlotte Avenue and Cross Street.
"As the 12 year old passed the suspect he grabbed her from behind and started to pull her back towards his car. The aunt hit the suspect in the head, causing the suspect let go of the victim," Hoyal stated.
The suspect was last seen about 2:40 p.m. Saturday as he sped away westbound on Cross Street and the girl and her aunt called 911 when they got home shortly thereafter.
Neither of the victims was injured.
