There’s a “new” station playing pop music in Salt Lake City.

KSQN-FM, at 103.1, recently switched over to “Sunny 103,” which boasts “the best variety from the ‘70s to now.”

What that meant this morning was Anna Kendrick’s 2013 hit “Cups” bumping up against Rupert Holmes’ “Escape (The Piña Colada Song)” (1979), followed by Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide” (1975), Green Day’s “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)” (1997) and Katy Perry’s “Firework” (2010).

The switch ends the station’s two-year excursion simulcasting the right-wing talk from Ogden’s KLO (still available at 1430 AM). Before that, the station spent several years as “Jack FM” — which played a mash-up of semi-oldies similar to the “Sunny” format.
