Man dies in South Salt Lake shooting
A man has died in a shooting in South Salt Lake.
The shooting was reported about 7:50 p.m. Monday near 150 E. Helm St. (3645 South), said South Salt Lake police spokesman Gary Keller. Officers found a man, 30 to 40 years old, in a silver car that was parked in the westbound traffic lane. The man had died, apparently from gunshot wounds, Keller said.
No one else was in the car, but witnesses reported seeing two groups of people running from the scene, one group of four to five people running south and another group running north, Keller said.
Officers were searching the area for any witnesses, including those who fled. Other vehicles were found empty on the road, "possibly occupied by witnesses," Keller said.
Investigators do not know whether the shooting occurred within one vehicle or whether two opposing vehicles were involved, Keller said.
The Tribune will report further details as they become available.
