Real Salt Lake: Sebastian Velasquez arrested for DUI
Real Salt Lake midfielder Sebastian Velasquez was arrested May 19 on suspicion of driving under the influence.
The 23-year-old was charged May 27 with DUI Class B misdemeanor and Class C misdemeanor speeding, according to the case file from the Salt Lake City Justice Court.
An arraignment was scheduled for Monday in the Salt Lake City Justice Court, but it was canceled as Velasquez's attorney entered a notice of appearance and not guilty plea.
Velasquez was booked at 5:18 a.m. May 19. According to the police report obtained from the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office, Velasquez was stopped for driving 84 mph in a 65 mph zone on Interstate 15 near 2700 South. The report stated odor of alcohol was detected and Velasquez failed standard field sobriety tests.
Velasquez has been away from the club since his arrest. Real Salt Lake general manager Garth Lagerwey said the midfielder, who is in his third season with RSL, also has been dealing with family issues but is expected back with RSL soon.
"Under league policy, there's a protocol to be followed under these situations under the joint substance abuse and behavior health program," Lagerwey said. "We have followed the initial steps and we anticipate that Sebastian will rejoin the team in full training by the end of [this] week."
RSL did not make Velasquez available for immediate comment.
"The issues are being addressed internally," Lagerwey said.
Velasquez's last appearance with RSL came in the club's May 18 reserve-league match against Colorado Rapids. He battled a hamstring injury to start his 2014 campaign, missing the first five regular-season matches of the season before making his debut at Philadelphia on April 12 in a 2-2 draw. Velasquez has appeared in five matches this season.
Velasquez played two years at Spartanburg Methodist College in South Carolina scoring 55 goals and assisting on 33 in his two years at SMC before being drafted by RSL in 2012. Velasquez has appeared in 44 matches across all competitions since joining the club, starting 19 times.

Saborio's surgery called a success
Real Salt Lake forward Alvaro Saborio underwent successful surgery Monday to repair a broken fifth metatarsal on his right foot, the club announced. The 32-year-old Costa Rican forward suffered the injury on May 29 during a pre-World Cup training camp in Costa Rica.
Saborio will miss the next 3-4 months of RSL's Major League Soccer season after Dr. Andrew Cooper repaired the fracture Monday at Salt Lake Regional Medical Center. In a release from RSL, Cooper said a screw was inserted in Saborio's right foot and bone marrow was injected around the site of the fracture to promote healing.
