Weber County Sheriff’s deputies fished a reportedly stolen sport utility vehicle out of Pineview Resevoir on Saturday.

At 10:20 a.m., a passerby saw a burgundy SUV partially submerged in the reservoir, near mile marker 14 on Highway 39, according to a Weber County Sheriff’s news release.

Deputies arrived and found the 1999 Mitsubishi Montero about 40 feet down a steep embankment just off the shore. They broke out a window and made sure no one was inside before a tow truck pulled it from the water, according to the release.

Deputies later discovered that the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Ogden earlier that morning, the release adds.

The SUV apparently struck a tree and sustained “some damage during its plunge down the embankment,” according to the release.

If anyone saw someone dispose of the SUV, or has information about the suspect, investigators are asking them to call the Weber Consolidated Dispatch Center at 801-629-8221.
