Old 97’s

Show of the week • The latest album by The Old 97’s, “Most Messed Up,” opens with a six-minute manifesto, “Longer Than You’ve Been Alive.” The song, which frontman Rhett Miller says he wrote quickly “and didn’t rewrite one word of it,” is a raucous, sometimes profane summation of everything good and bad about writing and performing The Old 97’s brand of alt-country punkish rock music for the past 20 years — but ends with the positive “Rock ’n’ roll’s been very, very good to me. The open road’s the only place for me.” Opening act: country-rock singer-songwriter Nikki Lane.
