A teenager was critically hurt Sunday in an Alpine ATV accident.

About 3:35 p.m., the 17-year-old was driving a four-wheeler out of Lambert Park and tried to get some air off a jump when he hit a cement berm and a street sign. Following an almost 10-foot drop by the sign, he was thrown 85 feet from the ATV, said Lone Peak Police Officer Skyler Zobell.

The teen, who was not wearing a helmet, suffered critical injuries to his head and was taken to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center, Zobell said.

A 17-year-old girl who was a passenger on the ATV walked away from the crash with only scrapes, Zobell added.
