Three people were injured, one seriously, when a suspected drunk driver plowed his pickup truck head-on into a car and a motorcycle in the Cache County town of Millville.
Cache County Sheriff’s Lt. Mike Peterson said the crashes occurred about 7:30 p.m. Thursday near 140 West and 200 South when the eastbound 1993 Dodge Dakota pickup truck, driven by a 40-year-old Millville man, went out of control and into the westbound lanes.
The pickup truck struck both a 1999 Cadillac DeVille driven by a 51-year-old Millville man, and a 1978 model Suzuki motorcycle ridden by a 67-year-old man, also from Millville.
The motorcycle rider was in critical condition when flown by helicopter to McKay Dee Hospital in Ogden, but had been upgraded to serious on Friday.
The pickup’s driver and his 29-year-old male passenger were treated for minor injuries at Logan Regional Hospital. No one in the Cadillac was injured, Peterson said.
Witnesses told police that the pickup truck had been driving erratically just prior to the crashes, and deputies reported evidence of drinking by both the driver and his passenger, Peterson said.
The driver was arrested Thursday night after being released from the hospital. He remained in Cache County Jail on Friday, being held in lieu of $5,048 bond on suspicion of second-degree driving while under the influence of alcohol and class B misdemeanor counts of driving on an alcohol restriction and failure to install an alcohol/interlock device.
Peterson said the pickup’s driver has an extensive history of past alcohol-related offenses.
