Salt Lake Tribune announces summer interns
Each summer, The Salt Lake Tribune welcomes students who spend 10 weeks practicing journalism skills they learn in the classroom or working for student news organizations.
They gain invaluable experience through these paid internships as our staff supervises and mentors them. We gain, too, from their creativity and ideas and their youthful outlook on our profession. Interns work hard and help us cover stories while Tribune staffers take vacation time.
Choosing summer interns is never easy. This go-around, we received more than 100 applications from around the nation.
In the end, we hired three excellent candidates whose names you'll start seeing at sltrib.com and in The Tribune's print edition starting in early June. They are:
* Danielle Manley, who is graduating from Utah State University in Logan
* Tierra Smith who comes to us through a program we participate in with the Sports Journalism Institute. She just completed her junior year at Grambling State University in Louisiana.
* Harry Stevens, who is graduating with a master's from Columbia University in New York City
