Police say they have solved burglary cases involving two, and possibly more, Cache County businesses with the arrests of two teenage boys.

Logan police Lt. Troy Thurston said Thursday that the arrests of the youths, ages 17 and 16, culminated a joint investigation with law enforcement in neighboring North Park that began with break-ins last week.

Thurston said Logan officers on foot patrol discovered first that the Island Market had been burglarized on March 30, then learned of a similar burglary at the Foothill Mart in North Park. A review of security video camera footage identified the 17-year-old as a suspect.

Accompanied by Utah Juvenile Probation officers, police found the teen outside his home smoking, and arrested him on Wednesday after a short foot chase.

Not only did detectives recover stolen property related to both burglaries from the residence, but also retrieved items reported taken from several other stores in the area.

Subsequent investigation identified the second, 16-year-old suspect, and he was arrested, too. Both boys were booked into a juvenile detection facility on suspicion of felony theft and burglary, as well as evading and criminal mischief charges.
