A car crashed into and killed a moose on a highway near Strawberry Reservoir.

A 61-year-old West Valley City man was driving west on State Road 40 Saturday night when a cow moose stepped in front of his Saturn. The Saturn was going about 65 to 75 mph when it struck the moose, which went up onto the hood and into the windshield.

The impact caused both the windshield and roof of the Saturn to cave in, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.

The driver suffered several cuts and was flown to Intermountain Medical Center. By Sunday, his condition had stabilized, according to UHP.
