A 14-year-old girl was seriously injured Friday morning when her hand was pinned under a car that hit her in West Valley City.

The girl was crossing 3900 South at 1300 West with three other girls about 8 a.m., dodging traffic as they crossed against a red light, said Lt. Dalan Taylor. One of the girls was struck by a westbound Honda Civic, suffering head injuries. When the car came to a stop, her hand was pinned under a tire, Taylor said.

The girl suffered multiple fractures to her face, but her hand was not injured, Taylor said. Her condition was deemed critical at the scene, but was upgraded to "serious" at the hospital, Taylor said.

The girls were skipping school when the victim was struck, Taylor said.
