$3.99 • Chicago Dog

Aficionados might debate the precise makeup of a Chicago dog, but there’s certainly a core checklist. Start with an all-beef, quality hot dog wrapped in a steamed poppy-seed bun. Next come yellow mustard, chopped white onions, sweet pickle relish, a dill pickle spear, tomato slices, sport peppers and a finishing flurry of celery salt.

At Johnniebeefs, the dog (Red Hot brand) and bun come directly from the Windy City. Johnniebeefs also adds cucumber to the mix (you won’t find ketchup lurking; that’s just for amateurs). Available in regular for $3.99 or big for $5.99.

Johnniebeefs • 6913 S. 1300 East, Cottonwood Heights; 801-352-0372;; open Monday-Saturday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
