The Westminster men’s basketball team has qualified for the NAIA Division I national championship tournament for the first time since 2010, and will play a first-round game Wednesday against No. 11 seed Benedictine College (Kan.).
The game will be played in Kansas City, Mo., and is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. MDT.
The unseeded Griffins, who earned an at-large berth, are 19-12 overall and have won six of their last eight games. They finished the regular season ranked No. 21 in the NAIA Coaches’ Top 25 poll, then advanced to the championship game of the Frontier Conference Tournament, where they lost 93-64 to Rocky Mountain.
Senior Tallon Roberton leads Westminster with 18.0 points per game on 56.8 percent shooting.
Benedictine is making its first appearance in the tournament since 1970. The Ravens are 22-8 overall and went 14-4 in the HAAC, though they went on to lose in the semifinals of the conference tournament.
